Man charged in Popeye’s parking lot fight
A Virginia man faces felony assault after a fight in the Popeye’s parking lot March 8 near Rehoboth Beach.
Police responded at 9 a.m. to the parking lot of Popeye’s on Route 1 for a fight and learned Charles Gehman, 30, of Lynchburg, Va., and a 65-year-old man had argued about traffic and parking when the exchange escalated, police said.
The 65-year-old man suffered minor injuries, police said, and Gehman drove off in a gray Toyota Corolla with Virginia registration. Troopers located the Corolla and Gehman a short time later, and he was taken into custody without incident. Gehman was taken to Troop 7 where he was charged with felony second-degree assault causing injury to a person over 62. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and released on a $4,000 unsecured bond.
