Support local artists and take a chance at winning an original painting by Developing Artist Collaboration founder Leah Beach by adopting an artist this holiday season.
For every $100 or more donation, or $25 monthly pledge made to DAC, donors who adopt an artist enter the raffle to win Beach’s original Tentacle Squid Ink 3-by-3-foot painting, valued at $1,200. The piece is part of her Flora & Fauna collection on display at Dewey Beer Co. through the end of December.
“Think of it like the World Wildlife Fund adoption where they send you an elephant photo and an adoption certificate,” said Beach, who noted the pandemic has severely impacted the arts. “Our goal is to raise $20,000 by the end of the year. We’re almost to $2,800, so it’s a small start, but we are so thankful to our community.”
Current restrictions on large events and gatherings that DAC traditionally uses to showcase its artists have made it difficult for artists to both make a living and get exposure, Beach said. By adopting an artist, Beach said, patrons are investing in local talent and culture.
“For the cost of a Netflix subscription, you will empower artists to change the world,” Beach said. “Simply choose an artist to follow their journey, and your monthly or one-time donation will fund this program for years to come.”
Donors will receive an authentic adoption certificate of their artist, an “Art is Essential” hand-dyed Indigo shirt, an example of the artist’s work, the artist’s bio card and quarterly updates on the artist.
Donations will go toward paying for the DAC website to promote artists and events, social media and career development opportunities. In turn, Beach said, artists will be expected to give back to the community through art outreach programs or future events.
Go to developingarts.org/adopt to adopt an artist and inform Beach of your donation at facebook.com/beachparttty to enter the raffle. The winner will be announced on Christmas Day.
