Adopt a Big Orange Cat Day set at Concord Pet in Rehoboth May 21

Feral cat wellness information will be provided
May 19, 2016

Adopt a Big Orange Cat Day is set from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 21, at Concord Pet Store in Rehoboth Beach. Attendees will hear the stories of the Garfield cats.

Cat caretakers will provide information on cat population wellness. Kitten season has already started in Delaware. It seems that a pregnant cat or an orphaned kitten can be found around every corner. For every 100 feral kittens found and taken into a shelter or foster home, there are probably another 300 that struggle to survive.

Most feral kittens do not live past 6 weeks of age. Uncared-for feral and stray adult cats can also count on a very shortened life span.

Attendees will learn about cat colony management and the trap, neuter and return program as well as volunteer and foster opportunities. They will hear from a Rehoboth Beach volunteer who has orchestrated the rescue of over 15,000 cats and kittens. A state officer from Delaware's newly formed Animal Welfare Division in the Division of Public Health will be on hand.

There will be adoptable cats and kittens from Coastal Cats Rescue and Milton Cat Colony Caretakers. Attendance is free. For more information, call Cyndy at 302-227-8433.
