Amy Orr Lear services announced

September 15, 2021

Amy Orr Lear, 81, of Lewes  passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, at her home from complications of Alzheimer's.  She was born in 1939 in Wilmington, daughter of the late William P. and Amy (Kirkpatrick) Orr.

Amy attended school in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Westover School in Connecticut, Bradford College, and graduated as a registered nurse from the Wilmington City Hospital School of Nursing.  She worked as an oncology nurse and IV infusion specialist, a hospice nurse, and possibly her favorite, camp nurse for Alford Lake Camp, Hope, Maine.   Amy was intensely interested in all aspects of healing.

Amy retired to live in Lewes, home to the Orr family for generations. In Lewes she continued to breed and raise shihtzus, spend time on the beach, volunteer at Beebe Hospital, serve on the board of the Irene P. Sorbara Foundation, have coffee regularly with a special group of Lewes friends, and visit her children and grandchildren as often as possible.  Amy was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lewes.  She will be remembered as a quiet and gentle person (despite her very dry sense of humor), a good neighbor, a loving mother and grandmother, and devoted partner.

In addition to her parents, Amy was preceded in death by her son, Rob.  She is survived by her partner, Diane Dombach;  her daughters:  Amy Piergiovanni (Joseph) of Havertown, Pa., Margi Lear-Greensburg (Jeffrey) of Chicago, Ill., and Mary Lear of Seattle, Wash.;  her grandchildren:  Joseph, Catherine, and Skyla;  her brothers:  William Orr of New Jersey and John Orr of New York;  her sister, Perry Drevo of Oregon; her nephews:  Sam and Rich;  her nieces:  Emily and Sarah;  her several cousins;  and her partner's family:  Ed and Peggy, Pamela, Brett and Samatha, Matt and Dawn, Brian and Mandy, Brandon, Morgan and Cole Dombach.

Amy and her son, Robert G.H. Lear, late of Oregon, will be interred in St. Peter's annex cemetery Saturday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m., with Jeffrey Ross, rector, officiating the services. Reception to follow at church hall.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Amy's memory to Saved Souls Animal Rescue, c/o Nicole Strike, 91 Bryan Drive, Rehoboth Beach, DE  19971, or to PayPal at savedsoulsanimalrescue@gmail.com, or to any charity of choice.
