An annual Milton tradition, the Andy and Opie Fishing Tournament, will be held at Milton Memorial Park Saturday, June 4.
Registration will start at 8 a.m., with fishing set from 9 a.m. to noon.
The tournament, in its eighth year, was started by Techno Goober as a way to encourage parents and kids to spend time together outside. And on the day of the tournament, the banks of the Broadkill River are lined with families staking out a position to catch the largest fish.
Winners are determined by the length of the fish. There are age groups starting at 7-and-under up to 13-17 for both boys and girls. Last year’s grand champion was Sean Janes, who won the 13-17 boys’ division with a 23-inch-long carp.
The event is free to register, bait will be provided and free hot dogs will be available to participants. Kona Ice truck will also be on hand to provide cool refreshments. Winners will be announced at 1 p.m.
