Antonio ‘Tony’ Salazar, had varied career

Antonio “Tony” Salazar, 74, passed away at home Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020.

Tony was born Jan. 20, 1946, in Kimberly, Nev., son of the late Adelaido and Josephine (Hernandez) Salazar.  He resided for many years in Ely, Nev., before moving to El Paso, Texas, and later to Delaware in the early 1970s.

Tony graduated from El Paso High School in 1967 where he was captain of the ROTC and member of the drill team of which he was very proud.  After graduation, Tony worked with El Paso City Lines as a payroll clerk (1968-71).  He also worked for the Bond Business College in El Paso in the Accounting Diploma Department.  After Tony moved to Delaware, he attended Delaware Technical Community College (1971-83) where he earned a business administration degree in accounting.  During that time, Tony worked with NCR in Millsboro (1972-84) as a senior accountant/payroll clerk.  He worked for a short time in production with Perdue from 1984-85.  Following his time at Perdue, Tony worked and later retired from MBNA Bank in Newark as a research and settlement analyst (1986-2006).  It was at that time Tony began working as a sales associate with Walmart in Seaford in the Pet Department for eight years.

Tony enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, books and memorabilia.  He also enjoyed traveling the United States, and connecting with family and friends along the way.

Tony is survived by four sisters, Maria Godwin of Georgetown, Felice Quinones and her husband Julio of South Gate, Calif., Josie Salazar, and Alicia Ramirez, both of El Paso.  He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family.  

A visitation for family and friends will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. All attending will be required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.  Interment will be held at a later date in El Paso.
