April is Fried Chicken Month at SoDel Concepts restaurants

Creative takes on Sussex County staple available for carryout
April 7, 2020

As the weather gets warmer, fried chicken becomes a Sussex County favorite for alfresco dining and Sunday suppers. It’s a versatile dish that can be eaten cold or hot, with the option of added Asian spices, Italian sauces or Southern heat.

In April, SoDel Concepts’ chefs will put their spin on the traditional during Fried Chicken Month.

“We are open for carryout to serve our guests and keep employees working – we’ve developed an efficient system for curbside pickup,” said Scott Kammerer, president of SoDel Concepts, which has 12 coastal Sussex County restaurants. “But we want to continue our monthly promotions because they’re so much fun. Our guests and chefs love Fried Chicken Month because there are so many ways to prepare it.”

Lupo Italian Kitchen in Rehoboth Beach is staying true to its Italian concept by offering chicken parmesan with homemade spaghetti. Papa Grande’s Coastal Taqueria in Fenwick Island has nestled fried chicken on a white crust roll with pickled jalapenos and Mexican secret sauce to create a novel torta.

Bluecoast Seafood Grill & Raw Bar in Rehoboth Beach is serving buttermilk-soaked chicken with rosemary biscuits and whipped butter. Bluecoast in Bethany Beach is also serving a comforting fried chicken in buttermilk batter, but this version comes with white cheddar grits and collards. Chicken wings in duck fat are also on the Bethany Beach restaurant’s specials list.

At Thompson Island Brewing Company in Rehoboth Beach, the kung pao chicken sandwich stands up to the heartiest brew. Fish On has chicken cordon bleu with Dijon cream, mashed potatoes, and sautéed spinach and mushrooms.

“We know these are difficult times, and there’s something so soothing about fried chicken; it's Sussex County comfort food for sure,” said Doug Ruley, director of culinary operations.
