Assateague Island pony herd welcomes new member

Kevin Lynam, a local wildlife and landscape photographer based in Milton, recently enjoyed capturing some scenes featuring a beautiful young filly on Assateague Island. He said the new arrival was born April 1, probably ready for some spring warmth.
“This foal's mother is the horse Autumn Glory, its dad is Assateague Phoenix, and she has a brother named Jack and a sister named Morning Glory,” said Lynam. “These are just some of the beautiful wild ponies of Assateague Island, Md.” He said he hopes the foal will spend her first few weeks quietly adjusting to life on the island with her mama, but the unexpected photo ops were too beautiful to pass up.
“This time of year is vibrant and lively on Assateague Island, and the feeling of spring is in the air,” Lynam said.
The new filly and her mom share a quiet spring day on Assateague Island.
Brother Jack and his newborn sister stay close to their mother, Autumn Glory. All three ponies are bay-colored pintos.
