Athletes of the Week July 26

July 26, 2024
Jacoby Clark

A rising seventh-grader at Fred Thomas Middle School, this Lewes Major League all-star delivered for his team in the District 3 Tournament last week, batting .455 by going 5-for-11 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs. He knocked in the winning run in extra innings against Milton in the final winner-take-all game to propel Lewes into the state tournament. "Jacoby is an awesome kid," said Lewes manager Jerry Windish. "He always has a smile on his face and does whatever the coaches ask him to do. He is filled with super positive energy." Jacoby plays for the Bagel Bombers travel squad, and when not on the diamond, he likes to play football and go to Orioles games.

Amy Lewis
After capturing first place in the New Swarm Classic at American Classic Golf Club in May, Lewis has continued to excel on the World League FlingGolf Swarm Tour, reaching the finals of the Keystone Classic. The full-time physical therapist and mom came in fourth during the July 13-14 tournament. Her finishes are nothing to scoff at as she is facing the best FlingGolf players in the sport. Her favorite memory so far has been winning the New Swarm Classic, a feat she accomplished with her family by her side, making it all the more rewarding. Lewis said she enjoys going to the beach and sporting events with her wife Maggie daughter Quinn and son Ethan. She is in the process of launching a golf apparel brand called Golf Therapy Apparel.
Ty Tillinghast

A rising seventh-grader at Mariner Middle School, this Milton Major League all-star was the second-leading hitter on the team during District 3 tournament play last week. He batted .353 and went 2-for-3 in the championship game with Lewes. He also led Milton in the field, assisting on 14 plays without an error, including two diving plays to save runs in Game 1 against Lewes. Ty plays for the Delaware Diamonds travel squad and will play for the Rawlings Prospects next season. When not playing baseball, he lends his talents to Mariner Middle on the cross country and wrestling teams. Ty is also the owner and president of 302 Sports Cards.

Emily Wells

Emily is a rising sophomore on the Cape field hockey team. She can roll to the goal. She is quick and fearless and has the knack for being around the goal and disrupting the defense. She is coming off Champions Field Hockey Camp where, along with rising sophomore Mairead Rishko, she was awarded the Total Game MVP Award. “Emily will be a major front-line player for us this season along with Mairead. Our team just needs game minutes, even though Emily played varsity as a freshman.” Last season, Emily scored a goal in a closely contested 3-0 win at Sussex Academy. She also scored a goal against Pocomoke in the bi-state challenge.
