Austen Cave wins Doug Strong 5K in 17:26
Austen Cave, 17, of Delmar won the second annual Doug Strong 5K in a time of 17:26 June 2 on the Irish Eyes race course in Lewes. A total of 135 runners completed the race on an oppressively humid morning on Lewes Beach.
Rounding out the leaderboard were Martin Rodriguez in 17:54, Jeff Bigner in 18:18, DJ Farren in 18:22 and Chris Stanley in 19:28.
Olivia Malloy, 34, of New York was the first woman, in 21:50. Susan Dunn in 22:03, Jackie Quigley in 23:09, Mardiny Ung in 23:25 and Denise D’Antuono in 23:36 rounded out the top 5 for women.
Some notable age-group winners in the female division included U9 Maya Yngve in 29:46, 10-13 Lilu Noonan in 27:04,14-19 Ashlyn Cave in 26:34, 20-24 Rebekah Yanacek in 30:55, 25-29 Heather White in 24:51, 35-39 Jenn Forman in 23:41, 45-49 Jen Perry in 24:53, 55-59 Margaret Colvin in 24:20, 60-64 Teri Moore in 32:32, 65-69 Mary Andrisani in 30:03, and 70-74 JoAnn Szczepkowski in 27:07 .
Some notable age-group winners in the male category include 20-24 Steven Echelman in 20:36, 25-29 Jon Zubrowski in 19:33, 30-34 Jeff Bigner in 18:19, 40-44 Doug Cooper in 19:47, 50-54 Clark Reeves in 21:00, 55-59 Bill Holdsworth in 21:07, 60-64 Brian Johnston in 22:17, 65-69 Rick Poppleton in 24:05, 70-74 in Tim Abbott 25:28, 75-79 Bill McArthur in 32:35, and 80+ Jack Huxtable in 28:58, which is a pending age-group record for a 5K.
