The Beacon Middle School track and field team topped the Selbyville girls 56-53 in Selbyville last week in what was the closest meet in eight years. This past Wednesday, the tough Selbyville team came to Lewes, and the Beacon girls squeaked out an even closer meet 55-54 to run the dual-meet win streak to 71.
The meet produced quality performances with athletes giving it their all everywhere you looked. Four girls ran under 27.5 seconds in the 200 meters, which does not happen often even in high school meets. Selbyville won the girls’ 4-by-200-meter relay in a new school record of 1:52, with Beacon close behind in 1:53. These are two teams that go to battle, then hug each other and say, “great job.” It was great to see the effort, the performances and the sportsmanship among all the middle school programs.
