Beebe Vascular joins Beebe Medical Group multispecialty practice

August 26, 2015

Dr. Mayer Katz, board certified in vascular surgery, has joined Beebe Medical Group’s newly formed Beebe Vascular. The practice in Lewes (formerly Delaware Bay Surgical Service) continues to treat both existing and new patients. A satellite location of Beebe Vascular also has opened in Ocean View and is planned for Millsboro and Milford. The central office continues to be in Lewes, and the telephone number is 302-644-4954.

Katz is joined in the practice by Dr. Carlos Neves and Dr. Sean Ryan, both fellowship-trained in vascular and endovascular surgery.

With the addition of Beebe Vascular, Beebe Medical Group, the employed physician medical group under Beebe Healthcare, continues its expansion, and currently comprises 18 medical specialties in 25 locations throughout southern Delaware, with more than 101 medical providers and 151 support staff.

“We are pleased to welcome Drs. Katz, Neves and Ryan into Beebe Medical Group,” said Dr. George Jirak, president and CEO of Beebe Medical Group. “Dr. Katz has made a tremendous contribution to our community and has been a member of the Beebe Medical Staff for many years. He established Beebe Healthcare’s vascular program in 1990, introduced important surgical and endovascular procedures to this area, and has improved the quality of life of thousands of our patients.

“Drs. Neves and Ryan have recently completed fellowships in vascular surgery, and bring their experience and knowledge to Beebe Vascular, the only medical practice in southern Delaware devoted solely to treating vascular disease.”

Katz earned his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University. He did his surgical internship at the University of California Hospital in San Francisco, earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and completed a residency in surgery at Boston City Hospital. He served as captain and surgeon in the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital program in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968. Katz later joined Beloit Memorial Hospital in Beloit, Wis., where he established its vascular program. In 1990, he established a vascular program at Beebe Healthcare, which today is part of Beebe’s comprehensive Cardiac and Vascular Services.

Neves earned his medical degree at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, N.J. He completed his residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, and his fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Vascular Surgery.

Ryan earned his medical degree at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway/Camden, N.J. He completed a residency in general surgery at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, and a fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery and Society for Vascular Surgery.

Both Neves and Ryan have earned the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation credential from the American Registry for Medical Sonographers.

Patients of Beebe Vascular Services have the capability of accessing their personal patient information at Beebe Healthcare through the use of Beebe’s secure online portal, Health eRecord.

Beebe Medical Group providers comprise the specialties of dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, otolaryngology, vascular, surgical oncology, cardiac surgery, internal medicine and family practice. Hospital-based providers include the Hospitalist division and its nurse practitioners; the Observation Unit nurse practitioners; the neonatal nurse practitioners with the Women’s Health Department; and Dr. Abraham Scheer, a board-certified neurologist who oversees Beebe’s accredited Stroke Center.
