Milton Arts Guild will present a special three-day introduction to oil painting workshop with Bill Patterson from 1 to 4 p.m., Monday to Wednesday, Feb. 5 to 7, at 310 Walnut St. Student fee is $110, with paint and canvas provided. Artists should bring their own brushes. A suggested supply list will be sent after registration. Class size is limited to 10 students, so early registration is encouraged.
Patterson is actively involved in the arts. As an 8-year-old, he painted a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, and that started a lifetime dedicated to improving his artistic talents. He received formal training from Rowan University, University of the Arts and Nelson Shank's Studio Incamminati. He holds a bachelor’s degree in art education and a master’s degree in teaching. He says he loves to impart knowledge to others, especially when they have that "aha moment" and realize "I get this."
"My inspiration to create a painting comes from my initial reaction to a particular scene, how objects relate to one another, and the play of light that creates a specific mood within me. I love to use oil paints because of the luminosity that I can achieve," said Patterson.
A recipient of numerous awards and commissions for his work, Patterson can often be seen with his camera and paintbrushes in hand, scouting his next artistic endeavor.
