The 26th annual Lewes Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau Boast the Coast took place Oct. 7 in various locations.

At 1812 Park along the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal, Chuckles the Pirate, aka Tom Greenwood, donned pirate gear to make balloon hats and animals for children, Lewes vocalist Jgar Helwig sang Broadway show tunes, Freedom Boat Club offered free tours of the canal and Cape Water Tours & Taxi offered a two-hour trip narrated by Lewes Historical Society Director of Education Marcos Salaverria called “Floating Through Lewes Maritime History.”

The Lewes merchant’s fall sidewalk sale took place on Second Street. Cape Artists held a sidewalk sale too. Peninsula Gallery opened its doors, while Coastal Concerts presented a piano concert.

The Cannonball House, Lightship Overfalls and U.S. Lifesaving Station were open for free tours.

The event was founded in 1996 to showcase Lewes’ nautical heritage. Sponsors included Irish Eyes Pub and Restaurant, Delaware Public Media and Beebe Healthcare with partial funding from Southern Delaware Tourism.
