Bobby Lou Roberts, jack of all trades
Bobby Lou Roberts, 88, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation, Lewes. He was born Tuesday, March 26, 1929, in Huntington, W.Va., son of the late Zella and Violet (Rose) Roberts.
Mr. Roberts worked a lifelong career owning and operating the family business, Roberts Dry Cleaning in Landover Hills, Md. After 30-plus years in the business, Mr. Roberts would retire and move to his beach home in Lewes full time in the late ‘80s. In Lewes, Mr. Roberts would stay busy as a hearing aid salesman for Miracle Ear for several years. He was a member of the Nur Shrine Temple, New Castle and was a 32nd Degree Mason at the Lewes Jefferson Lodge No. 15.
In his free time, Mr. Roberts enjoyed hitting the golf links and keeping his friends looking good by tailoring their clothes for the best fit. He also enjoyed sewing, making NFL teams pillows, eating crabs and cooking homemade pizza. Mr. Roberts was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; and his three brothers: Ezra, Charles and James. He is survived by his two daughters: Donna Istvan and her husband Steve of Lewes, and Laura DeMarr and her husband Bill of Alpharetta, Ga.; his son, John Roberts and his wife Kim of Haddonfield, N.J.; and his six grandchildren: Kim Swann and her husband Todd, Erin Burriss and her husband Kyle, Ross Istvan and his girlfriend Trisha, Lisa DeMarr and fiancé Sherrick, Lauren Roberts and Jack Roberts; and three great-grandchildren: T.J. Swann, Lindy Swann and Emma Burriss.
Funeral Services with a Masonic Service will be held Saturday, June 10, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
