More Cape Region events happening July 4-5

After events were canceled last year because of COVID-19, Rehoboth Beach entertained tens of thousands of people July 3 with its Independence Day fireworks celebration. Afternoon and early evening rain kept folks indoors until dark. However, after the poor weather blew over, masses of people descended onto the beach and Boardwalk.

If you missed the show, there’s still plenty of fun to be had, with a whole slate of events happening July 4 in Lewes – the boat parade at 1:30 p.m., the Doo-Dah Parade around 5 p.m. and then the annual Go Fourth Lewes fireworks display at dusk. Henlopen Acres is hosting its annual parade at 9 a.m. Dewey Beach’s annual fireworks display will take off at 9:30 p.m., July 4, from a barge in Rehoboth Bay. Bethany Beach has music from the 287th Army Band  at 7:30 p.m., July 4, on the bandstand. On Monday, July 5, Love Seed Mama Jump will perform at 7:30 p.m., at the bandstand, followed by fireworks at 9:15.

Tens of thousands of people crammed onto the beach to watch the display.
As the smoke shows, there was a little breeze.
After not happening last year because of COVID-19, this year’s display seemed a little brighter.
Like little balls of popcorn in the sky.
In addition to Rehoboth Beach Police, there were Delaware State Police troopers and other agencies on hand to make sure things went smoothly.
Saving your seat with an American flag towel is the way to go.
As the alley for the Shops at Rehoboth Mews shows, rain scared off a lot of people before the fireworks.

This scene isn’t specific to July 4, but it’s a day at the beach nonetheless.
The labor shortage is real. Despite the large crowds, Thrasher’s on the south side of Rehoboth Avenue was still closed.
