The Brick bids farewell to Mark Buchanan
In 2012, Mark Buchanan began his career as head chef at The Brick Hotel Restaurant and Tavern in Georgetown, knowing that he was walking into a restaurant that had been through a lot of changes during its first three years of operation. During his years at The Brick, Buchanan has successfully created menus that are responsive to The Brick's clientele, and has molded his team into one that excels in the execution of large and small group events – be it a 15-person birthday party or a wedding for 100.
Simply put, Buchanan has been instrumental in creating The Brick's incredible reputation, and adds to his list of accomplishments The Brick’s having been named for four consecutive years a Best of Delaware restaurant. In addition, under Buchanan's leadership, The Brick has been honored to be chosen as a restaurant participant for various local and fundraising events. These have included Del Tech's Starry Starry Night, Delaware Today's Best of Delaware event, Celebrity Chef's Beach Brunch, Meals on Wheels Culinary Classic, Top Chef of the Culinary Coast and Chow Down for Charity, to name a few.
Among Buchanan's greatest contributions to date has been his development of an incredible culinary team at The Brick. Having dedicated and committed more than four years to The Brick, Buchanan will be leaving The Brick mid-October to begin a new chapter in his life as chef in the catering department of Grauls Market in Towson, Md. In making this decision, Buchanan expressed his confidence that the culinary team he leaves behind is more than capable of continuing the great things that come out of The Brick's kitchen.
"I would like everyone to know how thankful I am for having the opportunity to work at The Brick. We are like a family that I will miss but I know that it is being left in great hands," says Buchanan. The entire Brick Family, along with their huge bank of regular customers wishes Buchanan well in his new endeavors.
The Brick Hotel Restaurant and Tavern is on The Circle in Georgetown, serving lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
