Bridgeville man killed in Georgetown crash
A 36-year-old Bridgeville man died April 17 in a single-car accident in Georgetown.
A gray Mercedes-Benz GLK350 was driving southbound on Old Furnace Road near Asbury Road about 10:50 p.m., police said. After driving through the intersection, the driver misjudged a curve in the roadway and went into a ditch. The Mercedes hit a series of drainage pipes and a mailbox before colliding with a utility pole, police said. The car overturned and stopped upright in a nearby yard.
The driver sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later identified the man as Michael Polynice after notifying next of kin.
No other vehicles were involved in the collision. Old Furnace Road was closed for about four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
