Caesar Rodney soccer blanks Cape 3-0 at Legends Stadium

Dwyane Lavender gets first win on Cape’s new turf
October 23, 2020

Caesar Rodney soccer won its first game of the season Oct. 22 at Legends Stadium under new head coach Dwayne Lavender, defeating Cape 3-0 on first-half goals by Christian Tisdale at 26 minutes and Tate Wisniewski at 32 minutes, plus a second-half score by Sebastian Stubbolo at 59 minutes.

The Riders played to a scoreless tie in the opening game of the season versus Sussex Academy, while the Vikings shut out Lake Forest 3-0.

The game was the first home contest played on Cape’s newly laid, screaming-green turf field.

The official stat line was deceiving and misleading, showing the Vikings outshooting the Riders 12-7, with a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. That script should at the least be flipped.

“I’m happy to go into Cape and for our boys to come away with a win,” said Lavender.

Riders goalie Zander Omans was credited with 12 saves, but for most of the game, he didn’t face much pressure and wasn’t forced into making acrobatic saves.

Cape continues to sizzle in the skillet of three straight tough home games and will host Salesianum Saturday, Oct. 24, followed by Sussex Academy on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Coach Patrick Kilby said, “I thought we looked good. Made some mistakes that cost us the game. Didn’t finish our goal-scoring chances.”
