Delmarva Rush hosted its second player camp of the summer at Sandhill Fields July 15-19, bringing future soccer stars out of the air conditioning to do some conditioning.
Delmarva Rush coach Jeremy Hurd, who played at Cape in the ’90s, is the camp coordinator and thinks it is important players stay active in summer and continue to grow their game.
“Our camps have been specifically designed to improve players' technical and tactical skills; players will not only broaden their skills but also train in a thriving environment,” Hurd said. “Through the sessions, the coaches will use real-game situations to increase game intelligence and decision-making, improving players’ overall skill sets. The values of respect, skills, energy, creative thinking, all-for-one and learning are instilled on and off the field to create a positive, learning experience for all players.”
Despite the week’s heat, Hurd said it was a series of successful sessions with the campers, and adjustments were made to keep the players safe and hydrated.
“The players this week were amazing,” Hurd said. “We had challenging weather, but they gave it their best, kept a good attitude and helped each other along the way. In the end, it's about learning something and having fun.”
A positive attitude is a big emphasis for Hurd. He not only wants his players to have one but to also encourage others to do the same. He believes there is plenty of room for courtesy while being competitive.
“We discussed the importance of lifting each other up after a mistake. I want all the players to encourage each other to make it a positive learning environment,” Hurd said.
Spots are still available for the final players camp of the year, set for Aug. 5-9, and goalkeeper camp (Aug. 26-30). More information is available at delmarvarush.com.
