Vikings beginning to click just ahead of state tournament
February 19, 2025

The Cape boys’ basketball team got sweet revenge on Milford Feb. 18. securing a 57-46 win over the Buccaneers. Milford had defeated the Vikings 38-36 Feb. 4 on the Vikings’ Senior Night.

Cape sophomore Jameson Tingle led the way with 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks.

“It took us a while to get adjusted to their physicality, but when we got used to it, we used it against them,” said Tingle. “They were trying to jump on everything, and we played our game and played calm and took advantage of their mistakes. Everyone’s clicking right now. With our guards playing on a high level and with our point Stephen [Sivels] playing at a high level and him leading the ship, we’ll do well.”

The Vikings went into the halftime break down 23-21, but they had the momentum after a last-second three bomb from Damian Robinson.

Cape outscored the Bucs 36-23 in the second half, including a 21-12 fourth quarter.

Sivels scored 13 points and kept the Vikings systematic in the attack of their game.

“We calmed down and played control,” said Sivels. “We were going 100 mph and coach wanted us to slow it down to 50 and control play.”

“This was Stephen’s best game of his career,” said Cape coach Steve Re. “He knew how to change his pace today. He didn’t lose sight of his main thing, and that was getting his team organized and under control and winning the game.”

Senior Damian Robinson hit for 11 points, including a slam to close the door in the fourth quarter. Geordan Downing scored seven. Robinson and Downing teamed for nine rebounds.

“I think everything is starting to click between all of us,” Robinson said. “We seem to have figured out that when we all play together to our full potential, we can beat any team in the state.”

“It’s only a matter of time before we really click,” said Re. “I think this team can make a lot of noise in the state tournament if we can continue to mature.”

Cape wrapped up the regular season with a dominating 68-36 win over Polytech Feb. 19 to finish with a 13-7 record. They await seeding for the state tournament, which is scheduled to begin next week.
