The Cape boys’ lacrosse team defeated the Appoquinimink squad 24-1 May 6 in the Scott Brozey Lead by Example Memorial Scholarship game at Legends Stadium.
“We didn’t start the game as well as we would have liked,” said Cape coach Geoff Shupard. “But the boys responded and put together a good game after the first couple of possessions.”
Cape took 42 shots in the game.
The Vikings were led by Luke Burton with four goals and two assists. Joe Coveleski and Burke Healy each hit the twine three times, with Coveleski adding two helpers. Michael Guenther, Evan Burris, Anderson Smith and Thomas Gibbs all scored twice. Jack Schell, C.J. Fritchman, Cody Trivits, Andrew Wolak, Leo Hunsberger and Lucas Stevenson each scored once.
Guenther was credited with six assists, while Trivits and Gibbs each had a pair of helpers. Schell, Fritchman and Kimwuan Gibbs each assisted on a goal.
Mason Trench and Augustine Musika each made two saves in the Vikings’ goal.
The Cape JV squad moved to 7-1 with a 10-1 win over the Jags’ JV team.
“I was honored to take part in the Scott Brozey Lead by Example Scholarship presentation,” Shupard said. “Scott was, first and foremost, a great person. He also embodied everything that Cape lacrosse is about. We will always miss him.”
Cape will host Milford at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, for Senior Night.
