April 26, 2023

The Cape boys’ lacrosse team thumped Caesar Rodney 20-5 April 26 at Legends Stadium. Cape moves to 7-2, while the Riders are 7-3.

Cape took a 13-2 lead into the halftime break and freely substituted the rest of the way en route to a 20-5 final score.

The Vikings took 37 shots in the game. Freshman keeper Mason Trench made seven saves and Gus Musika had four stops.

Cape’s C.J. Fritchman won 17 of 19 face-offs in the game.

Leading the way were Burke Healy with four goals and Jahden Cannon with three, while Luke Burton, Michael Guenther and Jack Schell each had two. Fritchman, Cody Trivits, Anderson Smith, Thomas Gibbs, Brady Mauro, John Anderson and Joe Coveleski all had one score.

Brexton Carter was credited with three assists. Schell and Fritchman garnered two assists apiece. Guenther, Gibbs, Brody Smith and Tajear Freeman each had a helper.

“I thought the boys played a good game,” said Cape coach Geoff Shupard. “Offensively, we were moving the ball well, and we also shot the ball much better. The defense did a very good job of limiting a talented CR offense, and I thought they communicated very well.”

The Cape JV squad defeated the Riders’ JV 7-1. Tanner Wyshock tallied five goals. Braddock Smith and John Anderson each cranked a goal.
