The Cape boys’ lacrosse team moved to 3-1 on the season with an 11-5 win over visiting Sts. Peter and Paul at Champions Stadium April 2. The Vikings scored just seven seconds into the game, when Mason Jack won the face-off and passed to Burke Healy who hit the back of the Sabres’ twine.
Junior Grant Conway led the Vikings with four goals. Junior Brenner Short tallied a hat trick, while Burke Healy, Ryan Morgan, Jake Hutchison and Alan Grapski each scored one.
“It was the first four-goal game of my career, and I’m pretty excited about it,” said Conway. “It’s a great way to start off the season, contributing to the team by putting a few in the back of the net. We played great in the first and second period, had a lull in the third, but picked it back up in the fourth. If we put four quarters together, it’ll help us the rest of the way in the meat of the season.”
Morgan, Healy, Jack and Braddock Smith were each credited with an assist.
Junior Mason Trench made eight saves in the Cape cage.
“I’m very happy with our team’s effort,” said Cape coach Geoff Shupard. “They are working hard, and I’m proud of them. There are things we need to clean up, but I thought the boys did a great job on ground balls and controlling the middle of the field. Ball movement was good on the offensive side of the ball, and our defense did a great job applying pressure and communicating.”
The Vikings play host to Caesar Rodney Friday, April 4.
