Cape boys' basketball shoots down the Ravens

January 16, 2025

The Cape boys’ basketball team wasted no time in its Jan. 14 game against Sussex Tech, jumping out to a 16-4 first-quarter lead that extended to 33-8 at halftime. When the final horn sounded, the Vikings walked away with a 68-42 Northern Division victory. Cape moves to 5-3 on the season, while the Ravens are 1-8.

Vikings sophomore Jameson Tingle led all scorers with 23 points. He also snagged 10 rebounds and dished off three assists.

“I thought we played very well,” said Tingle. “It was probably our season high in assists. We did a lot of drive in and kick out, which boosted our assists. I think we played much better than we have been. The team was very unselfish tonight.”

Sophomore Geordan Downing hit for 18 points, five from behind the three-point line, and made three steals, while senior Damian Robinson scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds.

“I feel our team performed and executed very well,” said Robinson. “We all worked together, and no one was being selfish. We moved the ball and listened to what our coach had to say, and that led to the win.”

Sophomore point guard Stephen Sivels grabbed five steals and dished off six assists.

“We played with really good concepts most of the night,” said head coach Steve Re. “We were under control and had good shot selection. Once we started converting, we really blew the game open quickly. We only gave up eight points in the first half. Just needed to get into a rhythm. It was our season high in assists as a team, and we shared the ball well and had a good shot selection.”

“It was great coaching against my old team,” said Tech head coach and Cape grad Tony Hazzard. “It went well early in the game, but things slipped away. We have a young team here at Tech.”

Tech was led by Corbin Foran with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Holden Steward added 12 points, and Kyle Thompson dropped nine.

The Vikings JV squad handled the Ravens JV 41-21. Freshman Nathan Re scored 15 to lead Cape.
