Cape boys’ lax answers the bell against Avon Grove

April 28, 2025

The Cape boys’ lacrosse team got back in the win column with a 17-6 victory over visiting Avon Grove April 26 at the Vikings’ Legends Stadium.

Ryan Morgan hit the twine for four goals, while Braddock Smith added a hat trick. Grant Conway, Burke Healy, Evan  Burris and Brenner Short cranked the rock for two scores each. Alan Grapski and Patrick Healy tallied a goal apiece.

“We came out slow, but we had a great second half,” said Smith. “Coming out of spring break, this is a good start to the rest of our season. I think it will help us build for the next couple of tough games.”

Burke Healy was credited with four assists, while Short helped on two, and Hank Anderson and Grapski had an assist each.

Cape took 33 shots in the game. Cape junior goalie Mason Trench stopped 11 scoring attempts.

“Avon Grove is a talented team that is well coached,” said Cape coach Geoff Shupard. “We have to understand the difference in the two halves. We have to understand we have to come out and make better decisions on both sides of the ball. It wasn’t the effort, the speed, the skill; it was decision-making with and without the ball. It shows us if we make good decisions, we are a pretty good team.”

The Vikings travel to Archmere Thursday, May 1, then return to Legends Stadium for Friday’s Senior Night game against Smyrna.
