Cape boys’ volleyball spikes this spring

March 17, 2021

The 2020 season was supposed to be the inaugural season for the new Cape boys’ volleyball team, but it was cut off before it began because of the COVID-19 shutdown. So 2021 is now the official launch for the Vikings spikers.

“This first year, we have 12 kids out for the team,” said co-head coach Tyler Coupe. “That’s a great number to see our first year. We have two students who are transfers in from Pennsylvania, and they have playing experience. Outside of that, with almost all the other students we’re starting at ground zero. As a coach, it’s an awesome challenge. It’s frustrating, it’s motivating and it’s engaging. We’re having to teach some of the most basic fundamentals; we usually teach [this to kids] who are half these guys’ ages. Their enthusiasm, body language and morale seem high, and that matters. They’re asking questions, they’re acknowledging our feedback, and they are showing the initial signs of being able to connect things together on their own, which is huge. I’m hopeful that the seniors can continue to lead with high emotion and strong team morale to create a culture that will contribute to the program’s future successes.”

They will have six home matches with Conrad, Newark, Indian River, Saint Mark’s, Delaware Military Academy and Delcastle.
