Cape senior Jaden Davis surpassed 1,000 yards rushing on the season en route to a 28-16 victory over Dover Dec. 4. The Vikings finish their 2020 campaign at 4-3.
It was Davis’ second straight season reaching the 1,000-yard milestone. His 160-yard game on 25 carries and three touchdowns concluded the seven-game season with 1,092 yards rushing. His two-year total is 2,116 yards on the ground.
Chancler Johnson rushed for 62 yards on two carries, including a 60-yard touchdown run. Jordan Baines carried the ball seven times for 56 yards. Daniel Saez ran the ball once for nine yards.
Junior quarterback Hank D’Ambrogi went 5-for-9 for 42 yards and scored on a two-point conversion. Ja’Vaughn Burton caught four passes for two yards.
Cape tallied 331 total yards on offense.
The Vikings were also a force on the defensive side of the ball, as they created four turnovers in the contest.
Kurtis Well led the Vikings defense with six individual tackles and helped on four more. Keishawn Mansfield totaled nine tackles with six individual. Maurki James and Chancler Johnson each totaled six individual tackles and three assists. LT Messick made six individual tackles and assisted on one. Nate Horn and Jordan Baines made four individual tackles and five assists. Davis, Ruppert, Isaiah Fillyau, Daniel Saez, Ethan Felker, Thomas Gibbs, Ryan Betins and Gavin Felker each were credited with multiple tackles and assists.
“I didn’t want the season to end,” said head coach JD Maull. “We were very close to the playoffs this season and with a break here and there and we are 6-1. This is a great group of kids. I’m really going to miss my seven seniors.”
