Cape High's class of 2017 will take center stage Tuesday, June 6, for their last walk as high school students.
Commencement will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Legends Stadium. If it’s raining, the festivities will move into the school gymnasium.
The guest speaker is restaurateur Scott Kammerer. His speech tells graduates to work hard, worry less and appreciate what they have.
“Give back to those who are less fortunate than you. As you go through life, there will always be people who have more than you (more wealth, more talent, more stuff), but there will always be those who have less,” he wrote in his speech.
Holding the distinction of both valedictorian and class president is Erik-Stephane Stancofski.
“He will give two speeches,” said senior class advisor and Cape High teacher Mary Garvert.
Garvert said the senior class gift will also be presented during graduation. This year, she said, the senior class donated water bottle refilling stations that can be attached to existing water fountains in the school.
“It's a great gift that they came up with,” she said.
Parking is similar to last year with spaces at the high school open on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the high school parking lot is filled, cars will be directed to a school bus depot off Kings Highway, where a shuttle will run a loop from the depot to the football stadium.
Graduation will be captured in a commemorative booklet that will be available inside the June 16 issue of the Cape Gazette.
