The Cape Henlopen field hockey team, under first year head Coach Kate Windett, closed out the regular season Nov. 1 with a 3-0 shutout over visiting Milford.
The Vikings finished the regular season with a record of 14-1 and are the likely number one seed for the upcoming state tournament that begins Wednesday, Nov. 7.
Milford dropped to 9-5 with one game remaining. The Bucs host once-beaten Caravel at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3. Milford is currently clinging to the final tournament spot at number 16.
Viking midfielder Sara Young brought her “Psycho Sara” game to the green turf of home, winning balls all over the field all day long. Young threw a couple first half passes towards Allie Yeager and the junior sent each home, one at 24:01 and the other batted out of the air and into the net at 16:12.
The second half saw Sam Broadhurst come off the bench to raise a ruckus at center forward. Sam received a pass from Anna Frederick with 15:04 remaining and chipped it past goalie Rebecca Yanacek for the 3-0 margin of victory.
Cape outshot Milford 35-8 with a 15-3 advantage in penalty corners. Katie Kolobielski made 4 saves while Yanacek was credited with 22.
The state tournament brackets will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 4.
