Cape JROTC assists with annual poppy campaign

June 18, 2017

Each Saturday in May, 15 Cape Henlopen High School JROTC cadets assisted the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 5 with their annual poppy campaign. Launched in 1921, the campaign connects the visual image of the poppy with the sacrifice of service made by veterans.

The effort helps raise funds for provisions and emergency assistance to active-duty service members and families as well as local veterans and their families.

Cadets volunteered with auxiliary members selling crepe red poppies at various retail outlets. Although they had to take time from their Saturdays, they all agreed that it was good to meet community members and work for a noble cause.

The cadets who worked with the auxiliary were Esly Marin-Landa, Davi Martins, Almita Ramirez, Patrick Whittam, Atonia Panchoo, Eli DeLeon, Jordan Holloman, Darnell Bailey, Ethan Yorkey and Martin O’Reilly.
