The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce honored the Cape May-Lewes Ferry for its 50 years in business Feb. 4.
Accepting the award were (l-r) director of operations Keith Gehrke, Nikky Fisher and presenter Bill Klemkowski.
The ferry began operations July 21, 1964, shoving off from the Lewes terminal carrying eight cars and 15 passengers. The cost for a car and a driver was $4. Today, the ferry transports 14 million vehicles and 43 million passengers a year.
