Cape junior goalkeeper Lucy Siranides stopped 14 Riders shots in the Lady Vikings’ 1-0 loss to Caesar Rodney May 14 on the Riders’ senior night. The Vikings move to 11-4 on the season.
The Riders’ only score came on a handball call in the penalty box, giving the home team a penalty kick in the beginning of the second half.
In the closing minutes of the game, the Vikings had a goal disallowed when the referee called a push in the box on a corner kick. “It was a very hard-fought game by our girls,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “Probably one of the best games I’ve seen us play in two years. They executed the game plan beautifully. We were a tad bit unlucky in the end, but we have to move on and await our seed for the state tournament.”
The Riders outshot the Vikings 22-11 and held a 7-3 edge in penalty corners. Caesar Rodney goalie Morgan Desaulniers had seven stops in goal.
The Vikings now await their seeding for the DIAA State Tournament.
