The Cape soccer squad hosted Kent Island Aug. 18 for their first action in the preseason and put two goals on the scoreboard to nil for the visiting Bucs.
Evan Burris hit the back of the twine in the first half off a pass from Amir Luna-Castellanos. The Vikings followed up in the second half with a tally from Cardin Benjamin off a pass from Travers Johnson.
A big play was made by goalkeeper Jake Hutchison as he stopped a Kent Island penalty kick in the second half.
“We scheduled Kent Island because they are a strong team in the Bayside Conference,” said Cape head coach Patrick Kilby. “They proved to be great competition to open our preseason campaign. Our guys played well in our first test, earning a 2-0 win. We are very happy with the performance. We are only going to get better. Confidence and chemistry are high, and we need to keep building on that.”
The Vikings will hold a 19-team scrimmage play day on Aug. 26 and travel to Caravel on Sept. 5 for their last scrimmage tune-up before opening their regular 2023 campaign Sept. 14 at Smyrna.
