Cape soccer slams the Senators 3-1

October 14, 2024

The Cape soccer team moved back into the win column with a 3-1 victory over Dover Oct. 10 at the Senators’ home stadium.

Vikings senior Cardin Benjamin scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season, with the first coming at the 47-minute mark from fellow senior Brady Spiegel. The second was scored four minutes later off a pass from Evan Burris.

“I think we were all eager to score in the first half, but nobody had enough composure to put one away,” said Benjamin. “But thankfully we found the back of the net in the second half.”

Austin Tyndall added an insurance goal at the 60-minute mark from Seth Benjamin.

Cape outshot the Senators 16-6 and held a 6-2 edge in corners. Vikings senior goalie Jake Hutchison made five saves. Dover keepers Aiden Cook and Peter Egipciaco teamed for 13 saves in the contest.

“We are looking at the remainder of the season as our own in-season tournament to qualify for the state tournament,” said Cape head coach Patrick Kilby.  “Every game we play from here on out is an elimination game. We showed up and got a great team win against Dover. Now we have to do it again against Milford on Tuesday.”

The Vikings JV squad moved to 9-2-1 with a 4-0 shutout of the Dover JV.

Freshman Kihara Ngido hit the twine three times in the game. Rodney Rodriguez added the fourth tally. Oscar Ventura and Carter Matarazzi were both credited with an assist.

Cape outshot the JV Senators 16-1. Jacob Panyko made a stop in goal.

Cape hosts Milford Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Legends Stadium.
