Cape unified basketball celebrates seniors

February 17, 2025

The Cape Henlopen unified basketball team celebrated its seniors Feb. 13, during the season-ending game against Milford. Milford won the contest 41-36.

“Senior Night was amazing as we are graduating 10 seniors – two athletes and eight partners,” said Cape head coach Katie Collick. “It was great to see Sara [Davis] and Sophia [Adams] both score and play their hearts out. The unified partners passed to their teammates, and we continued to score off their assists. Everyone played great.”

Collick said everyone happy when first-year player Danny Gartmen took the ball off a defensive rebound and dribbled it up the court and scored.

“The team has come so far in the past eight to 10 weeks basketball skills wise, but we had team and family unity since Day 1,” Collick said. “The smiles never left their faces and we had so much fun. We opt out of the playoffs because that’s just not our goal; our goal was to build great team bond and friendship and have fun, and we definitely did that.”

“I like playing with this team,” said Adams. “It was a really fun season.”

“It’s our last hurrah for the season,” said senior Lina Frederick. “We’ve made a lot of great friendships.”

Luke Archer and Dan Gartman led Cape with six points, but the score really didn’t matter. The camaraderie of the unified team made memories and friendships that will last forever.
