Cape wrestling shuts out Polytech 67-0

Fritchman gets 100th career win

The Cape wrestling team, featuring six freshmen in the starting lineup, shut out the Panthers of Polytech Jan. 18 in Woodside 67-0. Poly fielded a full lineup, covering 14 weight classes with no forfeits.

“There were some competitive matches out there,” said head coach Chris Mattioni. “We made some lineup changes as we get ready for big matches versus DMA [Friday night] and at Sussex Central next Wednesday.”

C.J. Fritchman got his 100th career win in the match at 175 pounds, pinning Carter Dulin at 1:36 of the first period. 

Freshmen winning were: 106 - Tripp Gannon fall over Wyatt Rivers (2:32); 113 - Cale Baker fall over Nate Lloyd (4:53); 120 - Mason Trench, first varsity start, over Elliott Miller 8-3; 132 - Nick Walker over Avery Rosah 1-0; 157 - Kingston Davis over Maxwell Gray 8-3; 190 - Robbie Payton fall over Sean Nagyiski (1:33).

Other Cape victories include 126 - Holt Baker over Tyler Rosen 14-2; 138 - Josh Wright fall over Kamryn Adams (3:32); 144 - Braydon Cole fall over Cameron Ervin (2:25); 150 - Andrew Schaen over Alden Garrett (10-0); 165 - Hayden Wheeler fall over Alden Durham (3:40); 215 - Alex Taylor over Dionysus Alston (24-9) and 285 - Sean Costello over Narvian Cooper (3-2).

Cape will host a powerful Delaware Military Academy team Friday, Jan. 20, with JV action beginning at 6 p.m.

Takedowns - Caesar Rodney rolled Milford 59-15, Smyrna beat Sussex Tech 49-25, DMA topped Newark Charter 72-10 and Sussex Central beat Dover 71-9.
