Cape’s Clara-Rosa Hertzog wins $5K scholarship
The American Legion Auxiliary recently awarded Clara-Rosa Hertzog of Cape Henlopen High School the Children of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship.
Hertzog will receive $5,000 toward her tuition at the University of Delaware this fall. Students from throughout the Eastern Division submitted entries for the scholarship, and criteria included character and leadership, essay and application, financial need and academic achievement.
Hertzog is battalion commander and honor guard commander for JROTC at Cape High and serves as community service team leader. She and her team have organized and participated in multiple community service events such as American Legion Poppy Sales, Feed the Children of Delaware, American Legion Post 17 Veterans Week Ceremony, and others as she actively volunteers within her community.
Murt Foos, president of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 17 in Lewes, said, “Clara-Rosa is known to many of us at Post 17/Unit 17. She leads the color guard for our military events as well as supporting and organizing numerous events at the post, and was elected the ALA Delaware Girls State governor in June 2019.”
