Carol Nathaniel 'Radar' Stewart Jr., combat veteran
Carol Nathaniel "Radar" Stewart Jr., 67, of Georgetown, departed this life Saturday Feb 20, 2016, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. Nate was the son of the late Carol Sr. and Ruby Crump-Stewart.
Nate was born in New Kent County, Va., Oct. 21, 1948, and moved to Delaware at an early age. After his mother passed away when he was only a few days old, his maternal grandparents, Henry and Lorraine Crump, stepped in to raise him and his sister Rose. There were also his stepmother Dorothy Stewart, his aunts, Mildred Sample and Evelyn Bradley, who also aided in his upbringing.
Once he moved to Delaware he lived on Lowe’s Crossroad with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He attended Ross Point Elementary School and William C Jason High School. In 1967 he enlisted in the military and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps Nate served in Vietnam in combat and he had no problem letting you know that he was a combat veteran. He was honorably discharged in 1973.
After serving in the Marine Corps, Nate worked at several different jobs (Bethlehem Steel, John Wanamaker, and Dresser Wayne Pump) and finally he became a DJ, which seemed to suit him well. He often told of the different shows he promoted, bringing different bands to Cambridge, Md. To hear him tell it, he and Tommy Trotter were “it.”
Nate is survived by his wife Tambara and her children; two sons, Nathan J Jenkins of Philadelphia, Pa. and Nathaniel C. Hill of Washington, D.C.; two granddaughters, Anya Dorsey of Chester, Pa. and Charlie Autumn Hill of Upper Marlboro, Md.; two brothers, Larry (Dola) Stewart and Randy Stewart of Laurel; three sisters, Rose Marie (Jimmy) Houston of Seaford, Vanessa (Joe) Deloach of Millsboro, Trudy Hammond of Delmar, Md.; one aunt, Evelyn Bradley; four uncles, Hugo (Ruth) Crump, Ben Sample, Earnest Snead and Harold Snead; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, at noon, where family and friends may visit two hour prior at United Deliverance Bible Center, 532 W. 7th St., Laurel. On Monday Feb. 29, at 10 a.m., interment will be at Delaware Veteran Cemetery 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
