Children’s Learning Garden filled with plants to attract bees
The GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club environment committee and Lewes in Bloom recently partnered to place a variety of bee-loving plants in the Children’s Learning Garden in Stango Park.
Helping with the planting were 20 homeschoolers and their families who meet weekly at the Lewes Public Library.
As pollinators essential to the reproductive cycle of many plants, including production of fruits and seeds, bees play a vital role in a garden’s ecosystem.
The 10 varieties planted are agastache, silky gogo, rudbeckia, sunflower thingoline, giant sunflower, Suncredible yellow sunflower, verbena vanity, yarrow skysail, salvia, and gay butterflies milkweed.
This project was inspired by GFWC Delaware President Trish Rodriguez’s call to action for all state clubs to assist bees with their need for flowers during the spring and summer months.
