Clarifying information about Democratic Party meetings

March 25, 2025

In response to the March 14 letter from Troy Julian, I wanted to clarify a few things. Delaware Democratic State Party meetings are open to all registered Democrats; no one must pay to attend and participate. Even when a party function is held at a restaurant, where people may meet before the meeting for a Dutch-treat dinner and social hour, all may attend and participate in the actual meetings and listen to a guest speaker if applicable. These meetings are held monthly by representative districts across the state.

Aside from state party meetings, there are clubs and organizations that are independent of the state Democratic Party. Some of these clubs hold meetings that include a meal that must be purchased. These clubs support Democratic initiatives and support candidates for office, but they are not affiliated with or a part of the state Democratic Party. They have no say in the operation of the party and the party has no authority over them.

All state party Democratic meetings can be found at deldems.org under events/upcoming events and are free to attend.

Only one letter per author will be published every 30 days regarding a particular topic. Authors may submit a second letter within that time period if it pertains to a different issue. Letters may not be critical of personalities or specific businesses. Criticism of public figures is permissible. Endorsement letters for political candidates are no longer accepted. Templates, form letters and letters containing language similar to other submissions will not be published.
