Community food pantry hosts Taste of Milton

October 2, 2024

As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, Milton Community Food Pantry held its inaugural Taste of Milton event Sept. 28.

The event featured concoctions from seven Milton-area restaurants and service organizations, as well as a silent auction and music by Al Frantic.

The pantry is an all-volunteer organization founded in June 2014, and it serves clients throughout Sussex and Kent counties, providing food assistance to those in need. For the first eight years of its existence, the pantry operated out of the then-Goshen Fellowship Hall on Federal Street. After a short time at Water’s Edge Church on Route 16, the pantry moved to its new home on Union Street Extended in October 2022. A year later, the pantry opened its 1,500-square-foot warehouse and refrigeration building.

Pantry President Lawrence Bivens said the pantry has served 10,000 people just this year, with 136 families coming for food at its last distribution Sept. 30. As a show of gratitude for what it does for the community, Milton Mayor John Collier presented Bivens with a $2,500 donation from the town as part of the celebration.
