The Community Resource Center hosted its seventh annual Building Bridges for Neighbors in Need event Oct. 12 at the Peninsula Golf & Country Club in Long Neck. Hundreds of supporters and center volunteers attended the event.

Meg and John Collins of the Collins Charitable Foundation were recognized as the 2023 Community Advocates. Community Resource Center board President Beth Cohen said without their donation, the organization would not have been able to make it through the pandemic.

Volunteers Dianne Shearon, Ellen Conway, Ann Ameigh and Carol Wzorek were also presented with 2023 Community Impact Awards.

Community Resource Center Executive Director Nancy Alexander said for more than 12 years, Shearon has coordinated the food rescue, which distributes about 40,000 bags of food every year.

Since 2014, Alexander said, Conway has organized the baby pantry, which sees more than 1,000 visits annually by babies and small children.

Ameigh came to the Community Resource Center in 2009 and formed the job center in 2011. She’s helped hundreds of people find long-term stability, said Alexander.

Wzorek was not in attendance, but Alexander said her dedication to the organization led the expansion of the financial assistance program.
