Compassionate Friends Lighthouse Chapter held its annual Walk of Remembrance and Butterfly Release Sept. 9 at Blockhouse Pond in Lewes.
The walk of remembrance around the pond was a quiet, supportive coming together for grieving families. Participants then gathered at the pavilion to listen to poetry and music that touched on the unimaginable grief that brought the group together. Everyone was handed an envelope to open, allowing the butterfly inside to fly away in its own time. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.
Compassionate Friends is a community of support for families suffering the immense pain of losing a child. This profound loss can leave families feeling hopeless and drained of any purpose. It is by coming together, although saddened by the reason, that some ease may come. Bereaved siblings and grandparents are also welcome to attend meetings and events.
