County should consider density limits

January 21, 2025

I support Councilman Matt Lloyd in his efforts to address the runaway developments currently in process and planned for our area. I have written to the Gazette previously suggesting a two-year moratorium. Maybe a year is sufficient, maybe not.

One subject not articulated is whether the county should consider more stringent density limits.

If developers were restricted to minimum lot sizes greater than the sardine effect we now have, the issue of overbuilding and traffic would or could be mitigated to some degree, satisfying all parties.

I realize developers and builders wish to squeeze out as many homes as they can in a parcel of land, but this is exactly how we have arrived at this situation.

Add on top of these housing developments is the commercial developments in the future.

We are scaring prospective new residents from settling here.

I hope the new council members will join Lloyd and many residents of our area to expeditiously address the public’s concerns.
