Daniel F. Simpson, proud veteran

Daniel F. Simpson, 89, of Harbeson, passed away peacefully Monday, July 18, 2022, at his home.  He was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Springerton, Ill., son of the late Daniel and Thelma (Wilson) Simpson.

Daniel was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a crane operator and foreman for Del Myers Construction Co. for many years prior to his time with the State of Delaware as a dredge captain.  Mr. Simpson ultimately transitioned to dredge team manager for the state’s Department of Soil and Water Conservation, retiring in 1992.  He was a lifetime member of the Nassau Redmen, American Legion Post 28, and a past member and Sunday school teacher at Aldersgate Wesleyan Church.  Mr. Simpson had many interests and hobbies.  An avid outdoorsman, he thoroughly enjoyed gardening, fishing, clamming, camping and traveling to new, exciting places.  Above all, he cherished time spent with those he held most dear.  Mr. Simpson was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.  Loved by many, he will be genuinely missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his first wife in 2001, Violet Simpson; and his six siblings:  Charles, Lester, Dallas, Helen, Mildred and Allis.  He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, June Ritter Simpson; his sons:  Samuel Simpson (Leslie) of Harbeson, and Bill Burnside (Penny) of Makanda, Ill.; his grandchildren:  Amy Lewis (Brian) of Lincoln, Dan Simpson (Tara) of Milford, and Kara Burnside of Makanda; and his great-grandchildren:  Hannah, Khloe, Trevor and Garrett; and his brother, Samuel Simpson of Anna, Ill.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow the services at Epworth Cemetery, Henlopen Avenue, Rehoboth Beach.
