Bridgewater State University announced that Dawn Henderson of Rehoboth Beach received the Dr. Catherine Comeau Award for Professional Achievement from The Bridgewater Alumni Association at its November award ceremony.
The award is presented to an alumnus or alumna who received a baccalaureate degree from Bridgewater State University’s Movement Arts, Health Promotion and Leisure Studies department five or more years ago, and has been an influential role model in the field.
Henderson retired from The College of New Jersey in 2017 after spending 24 years as associate director of athletics and head women’s basketball coach. She is the most successful coach in TCNJ history, having amassed seven 20-win seasons, four New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships and nine NCAA Tournament appearances. In the 2008-09 season, the women’s basketball team advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four and placed third overall in the tournament.
Henderson is respected in the basketball world and has been honored as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, New Jersey Athletic Conference co-Coach of the Year, Women’s Basketball Coaches Association District III Regional Coach of the Year, and Russell/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Region 3 Coach of the Year.
