It took a couple months longer than expected, but one of Dewey’s original hotels is now home to its newest coffee bar.

Dawn Patrol Cafe in the lobby of the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel opened mid-September, and said owner Rob Marshall, people have really liked it. There was a plan to open this summer, and while the delay was frustrating, he said, opening now allows them to work out the kinks before next summer.

The new cafe, located in what used to be a Subway, is one of a number of changes undertaken at the hotel over the past six months. The lobby, at least three times as large as it used to be, is now located next to the new cafe, and has a place for guests to enjoy the hotel’s continental breakfasts. The original rooftop deck was redone and a second level, with a gazebo, was added. The the entire southern side of the three-story hotel was resided.

Guests can stand up here and watch the parade of people walk by, said Marshall, who said the old lobby will be turned into a guest fitness center in the not-too-distant future.

The Atlantic Oceanside Hotel is at McKinley Avenue and Route 1, 1700 Coastal Highway. For more information call 302-227-8811 or go to www.atlanticoceansidedewey.com.
