February 9, 2023

The Coastal Georgetown branch of the American Association of University Women will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 16, in the large meeting room of the Lewes Public Library.

The guest speaker will be Carlton Hall, a cultural preservation specialist and historian for the Delaware State Historic Preservation Office in Dover. He will discuss Delaware and the Green Book, the travel guide African American motorists used in the mid-20th century to find friendly accommodations in states where racial segregation was legal.

Hall was named to the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s 2018 list of 40 Under 40: People Saving Places, honoring individuals who have made a significant impact in historic preservation and related fields.

Hall graduated from Delaware State University with a master’s degree in historic preservation and is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. In his spare time, he enjoys working out, traveling and learning about West African culture. Hall is also an Underground Railroad and African American history enthusiast.
