Delaware Hospice 5K only muggy if you’re moving

Caleb Bradley wins 10th annual race in 20:21
June 29, 2018

The 10th annual Delaware Hospice 5K was run under ideal weather conditions June 27 ... if you were standing still. After the national anthem was sung by Miss Hockessin Rebecca Gasperetti and the horn was honked by the mayor of Milford, a cloud-covered mugginess settled over the field of 200 striders and gliders.

“This was not the usual crowd that shuffles in for a race,” said Race Director Wayne Kursh. “These are people with a connection to Delaware Hospice who are here to support the event.”

The race was won by 16-year-old Caleb Bradley in 20:21. He was joined on the top 5 leaderboard by Gerald Jones in 20:46, Matt Sparacino in 20:55, Jeff Evans in 21:33 and Seth Flaherty in 21:47.

Eileen Davis, 49, of Georgetown was the first woman and eighth overall in 22:24. Rounding out the top five women were Emily Holstein in 22:32, Sara Bushey in 22:52, Kelly Van Patton in 26:04 and Melanie Rosser in 27:20.

Half the crowd – more than 100 – walked the course between 15- and 22-minute mile paces, electing the walk-and-talk approach to support Delaware Hospice.

The next local Races2run events are the Sunday, July 1 Outlet Liquors 5K at Northbeach, the Tuesday, July 3 Christmas in July 5K in Lewes, and the Wednesday, July 4 Red White & Blue 5K at Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
